U.S. Marshals arrest 18-year-old for September 2023 shooting death of juvenile

Savannah Police announced via press release that U.S. Marshals arrested an 18-year-old man for the Sept. 7, 2023, fatal shooting of a juvenile male at West 32 Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

The suspect, Malikye Jalyn Heyward, has been charged with murder and aggravated assault. Marshals took Heyward into custody on Oct. 28.

On the evening of the homicide, SPD responded to the scene and discovered an unconscious person lying on the ground, according to the press release. The victim succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

“I want to thank both our investigators and the U.S. Marshals,” said Lenny B. Gunther, Savannah Police Chief. “Our officers and the marshal’s tenacity and professionalism in this case is laudable.”
