Savannah Fire assists with fire near Coastal State Prison

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – The Savannah Fire Department (SFD) is assisting with a fire that occurred early Thursday morning near Coastal State Prison at 200 Gulfstream Rd.

A storage building near the prison caught fire. The fire is not located near the secure area so no inmates or staff are in danger. The building was empty when the fire began.

The State will take over the investigation of the cause of the incident because the fire occurred on state property.
