SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – It’s typically closed on Mondays, but in honor of Veterans Day, the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force will open its doors.
On Nov. 11, the museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., welcoming veterans with free admission as a token of gratitude for their service.
The museum uses films, exhibits, artifacts and archival materials to educate visitors about the Eighth Air Force, the largest air armada in history, and its role in World War II.
A special “Ringing of the Bells” ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. in the museum’s Memorial Garden near the Chapel. It’s an annual tradition to honor those who have served and commemorate the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I. Each bell toll is meant to symbolize peace and remembrance and the courage of all who have served.
“Veterans Day is an opportunity for us to express our appreciation for the sacrifices made by our servicemen and women,” said Dawn Brosnan, director of Communications and Marketing. “We invite all to join us in honoring our veterans and reflecting on the history and impact of their service.”
