After championing Savannahians’ health, Paula Kreissler steps toward retirement

When exceptional leaders such as Executive Director of Healthy Savannah Paula Kreissler decide to retire, speeches are often made about the shoes that others will have to fill.

In the case of Kreissler, a self-described “health nut,” the proverbial shoes are a one-of-a-kind pair of sneakers designed by AD Specialty Founder and President Diana Morrison.

Kreissler’s retirement celebration emcee Terry Enoch, Savannah-Chatham County Board of Education police chief, and Healthy Savannah Board Chair Dr. Blake Caldwell made speeches Nov. 3 at the Charles Morris Center that referenced the orange and purple polka-dotted kicks Kreissler was sporting as big ones to fill.

During her own speech, though, Kreissler revealed that the sneakers were actually two-of-a-kind as she held up a matching pair made for her successor, Armand Turner. The gesture was a fitting one for Keissler, who is seen by others as a community and consensus builder who literally walks alongside people toward healthier living.
