There’s a new development in the sandwich shop story Savannah-area social media has been buzzing about.

Firehouse Subs issued an apology regarding an incident reported at its Pooler location on Veterans Day.

The national chain was having a special for veterans and active duty service members, offering them a free meal in honor of their service. A customer at the Pooler location reported unprofessional conduct from the owner including explicit language, name-calling, and general rudeness towards the customers and the special that he said was costing them a lot of money.

The story of the incident went viral online, being read and shared thousands of times, and leading to a ton of negative reviews for the Pooler sandwich shop.

A statement from the company says Firehouse Subs has spoken to the customer in question, offered their deepest apologies, and has pledged to donate $25,000 to a local veteran organization the customer recommended.
