SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) -Hope on a Plate is Feed the Hungry’s annual Christmas dinner serving those in need. This year, it is slated to feed around 400 families Monday, Dec. 23, at Enmarket Arena, but that is not all it entails.
A big part of the dinner are the gifted toys to the children in attendance, all donations.
In it’s 16th year, because of the popularity of the event, currently, Feed the Hungry does not have enough toys for the number of children expected to attend, said Feed the Hungry CEO and State Representative Carl Gilliard (D-162).
“We need over 600 toys, miraculously, by Monday, and we believe it will happen,” said Rep. Gilliard.
Feed the Hungry has been able to adapt to the event’s growing capacity.
“Every year it grows,” says Rep. Gilliard, “and so when it grows, we already have people that are registered for toys, but then we have an overflow of toys for people who didn’t register. So they’re bringing their kids when when they come, and we sign them up at the door, and then we will allow them to come to the toy factory and pick out different items.”
