A lot of people seem to think the market sprouted out of the ground, said Forsyth Farmers Market Manager Asia Harold. But much like seeds, the market only blossomed after a long and complicated process of becoming―and most of that process was unseen.
Since it was founded in 2009, FFM’s main goal has been to provide all members of Savannah’s community with a welcoming, inclusive place to purchase locally grown produce, meats, eggs and other products, and to address food access issues. Although the non-profit FFM will face significant downsizing and restructuring to its many programs over the next couple of months , the flagship market will continue to carry out this mission. The market kicked off the new year on Saturday, Jan. 9, and added nine new vendors from Georgia and South Carolina.
“We’re thrilled to start 2025 with our vibrant Saturday market and the addition of nine impressive new local vendors,” said Forsyth Farmers’ Market Executive Director Debi Fowler. “Many Savannah residents make New Year’s resolutions to improve their health and to make better food choices. Forsyth Farmers’ Market is the perfect place to find high-quality, locally grown produce and to support our local food system.”
