Alex Yarber, a Savannah-native, spent sun-soaked summers between attending college at the University of Georgia and working at a seafood restaurant on Tybee Island. There, he encountered a lot of different people in a lot of different situations, inspiring him to create his feature-film project, “A Low Country Crime Story”, which was recently featured in a Deadline Hollywood article for its inclusion on The Black List’s Georgia List.
“A Low Country Crime Story” is about two low country waitresses trapped in a vicious cycle of debt and deferred dreams. After they stumble across stolen money, the waitresses enact a desperate plan, but soon find themselves tempted into a dangerous–yet lucrative–underworld when the money’s ruthless owner comes calling.
Yarber said he was inspired by the dynamics of the restaurant he worked at on Tybee, a high-pressure environment where there were tangled dynamics between co-workers, the leadership and the customers…
