Beaufort County outlines possible steps for 2026 penny tax

BLUFFTON, S.C. (WSAV) — Beaufort County officials have figured out some answers on why the 2024 penny sales tax failed to pass. Now they’re working to prepare for the next go round with hopes they can get people to vote for more tax to fund the many projects needed in the county.

Beaufort County council held a special workshop meeting today to talk about the next step and the next referendum to be put in front of voters.

Several roads, highways, bridges, recreational and government facilities are in need of fixing but the penny sales tax request, which would have paid for the upgrades, has failed the last two election cycles…
