SCCPSS looks at new ways to bolster safety and security at schools

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) – Tuesday, the Savannah Chatham County Public School System’s Board of Education Police Department presented school board members with a new plan to bring more fencing to schools.

After a school shooting in Barrow County less than a year ago, safety and security on campus has been top of mind for many Georgia families.

As part of a “layered security” approach, officials with SCCPSS BOE Police Department want to bring fencing to more school campuses. Through the plan, they developed some new design specifications, which noted that the fences should be at least 6-8 feet high and not include any horizontal rails or footholds, making them harder to climb…
