SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — WSAV News 3 has obtained some of the body cam footage from the Savannah Police Department (SPD) in two separate use-of-force cases involving Savannah Police officers.
The first happened in June of 2024 involving Markel Robinson, a wanted suspect on a series of charges including rape. In all, seven SPD officers received a variety of discipline, including suspensions, for their role in the incident. Initially, an SPD use-of-force board recommended two of the officers be terminated in connection with this arrest, a decision that was overturned after an appeal.
The second on May 20, 2025, involving a mother Qua Maine Williams and her son, Verner Ross. Both were arrested for obstruction of an officer. Williams was also charged with simple assault. The mayor and SPD were alerted to this incident through a social media post. The only officer disciplined was for use of vulgar language during the arrest.
