Georgia to expand mental health crisis centers

ATLANTA, Ga. (WJBF) – Georgia is focusing on mental health and suicide prevention by expanding its crisis resource centers across the state.

Georgia has more than a dozen crisis centers around the state and is planning on building two more in Atlanta, as well as additional units in Augusta, Columbus and Savannah. Each of those cost around $10 million dollars to run, and the state has the ability to deploy those resources across the state in case someone is having a behavioral health episode.

Data from the CDC shows more than 1,600 Georgians took their own lives in 2023, and two thirds of suicides were due to firearms…
