An alligator was seen around the mid-beach area of Tybee Island Friday morning, according to the city’s Facebook page.
First responders searched the area on foot and with drones for several hours but were unable to track the alligator as it swam to deeper waters. While alligators can tolerate salt water for short periods of time, they are primarily freshwater animals, living in swampy area, rivers, streams lakes and ponds.
