Pooler food pantry closes after serving thousands – now searching for a new home

POOLER, Ga. (WSAV) — A Pooler food pantry that has fed thousands over the years is now without a space to store food or serve families. After a 15-year run, Pooler Loaves and Fishes was forced to move out of its location this weekend.

This weekend marked a bittersweet final food distribution for Loaves and Fishes and their partner programs like Backpack Buddies. With the deadline to move today, the pantry’s future hangs in the balance, and many in the community are already feeling the weight.

The pantry has officially vacated Pooler First Baptist Church after operating there for nearly three years. On Saturday, volunteers worked hard to move refrigerators, racks, and supplies into temporary storage with the help of Gateway Church, Benedictine Military families, and even a horse trailer. However, despite the support, organizers say they still don’t have a permanent space. Without space, they’re unable to serve food from the cargo container they currently have due to safety regulations…
