Flau’jae Johnson wins gold medal for Team USA

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — Savannah native Flau’jae Johnson earned her first gold medal Sunday, winning the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup in Santiago, Chile, as a part of Team USA.

The USA squad, comprised of 12 collegiate players, went a perfect 7-0 in the tournament, earning gold after beating Brazil 92-84.

Johnson averaged 4.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and one assist per game. In the opening round against the Dominican Republic, she scored 22 points and added seven rebounds and two assists.

Johnson shared the accomplishment in a Facebook post and said, “Wow, something amazing I can add to my resume: 1X GOLD MEDALIST !”…
