Savannah to welcome home remains of WWII Airman

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — Bonaventure Cemetery will welcome the remains of a native WWII fighter killed in combat on Friday, the city announced.

2nd Lieutenant Milton Leonard Hymes Jr. was 22 years old when killed during a bombing mission on June 20, 1944, after colliding with another B-24 in his formation and crashing into the Baltic Sea off the coast of Denmark.

Hymes will be interred with full military honors on Friday at 10 a.m. next to his parents in Bonaventure Cemetery…
