Spanish-American war monument to return Forsyth Park

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — The city of Savannah and Tree Department will reinstall the Spanish-American war monument after suffering damage during a vehicle accident in January.

The city is advising drivers to seek an alternate route while work is underway starting July 15 at 7 a.m. on Park Avenue and Bull Street.

Known as ‘The Hiker’ and ‘Georgia Volunteer,’ the monument was created in 1931 to honor Georgians who served their country during the Spanish-American war.
