Man sentenced in hospital kidnapping, assault

HARDEEVILLE, S.C. — A Georgia man was sentenced to 12 years in prison last week after pleading guilty to a 2023 attack on a hospital employee at Coastal Carolina Hospital.

Savannah native Marc Kaikala pleaded guilty to kidnapping and first-degree assault and battery.

While in the emergency room, Kaikala stole a pair of scissors and attacked the nurse treating him. He then held the nurse hostage as he held the scissors to her neck.

Kaikala was given 12 years for the kidnapping and 10 for the assault and battery. The two charges will be served concurrently.
