Beach Institute event to highlight black soldiers who fought in the Civil War

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) – The story of the 135th United States Colored Troops will be told in detail at an event Saturday, July 25 at the Beach Institute in Savannah.

Authors and public historians Jay and Amy Bauer spent more than a decade researching their book “It’s All About Guts’’ on the 135th, which was a unit of more than 1,100 soldiers from Georgia, South Carolina and North Caolina and part of more than 200,000 black soldiers who helped reshape America by serving with the Union Army during the Civil War.

The Bauers will hold a book signing and presentation from 3-4 pm on July 26. The event at Beach Institute is being held in collaboration with Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc…
