Ways to keep kids safe during extreme heat

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV)– As temperatures continue to rise in the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry, medical professionals urge parents to take precautions when their children are playing in the sun.

The City of Savannah has splashpads at various locations. They are a way kids can stay cool. Memorial Health Pediatrician Ashley Cheek suggests parents to be prepared for a day outside.

“As for SPF or sunscreen is concerned, 15 to 30 SPF is great for kids. There are studies going into whether you need more than that or not so bare minimum of 15 is great,” Dr. Cheek said. “Then as far as hydration is concerned, bring a couple extra bottles for babies more than you normally would just because they’re probably thirstier because it’s hotter outside.”…
