Impersonation scam targets Coastal Electric members

LIBERTY COUNTY, Ga. (WSAV) — The Coastal Electric Cooperative (CEC) is alerting members of a reported impersonation scam.

This alert came after a member reported that someone arrived at their home at 1 a.m., claiming their power would be disconnected unless the bill was paid. The Coastal Electric impersonator was dressed in uniform, wearing a badge and driving a utility truck.

CEC wants to remind customers of the following:

  • CEC will never disconnect power after normal business hours.
  • Employees will never arrive at your home late at night demanding payment.
  • If someone claiming to be an employee arrives to your home at night, do not let them in.
  • If you’re in doubt or feel unsafe, call the police.

If you’re not sure if the person claiming to be an employee is legitimate, call CEC here…
