SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — Senior Citizens Inc.’s (SCI) Meals on Wheels (MOW) program prepares meals for seniors with many locally grown ingredients for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. As part of SCI’s 65th anniversary, they’ve partnered with local chefs to include unique menu items.
Monday, Mike Hanlon, executive chef at Ukiyo in Savannah, added his Japanese-inspired menu items to the MOW roster. Hanlon prepared a Vanilla Rice Custard in the SCI kitchen and provided the SCI team with a recipe for Chicken Kabayaki for future MOW meals.
Hanlon says he’s proud to bring his delicious cuisine to SCI’s clients. “They can’t get out of their houses and just bringing them joy three times a day or twice a day. It’s we sign up to do when we’re in the hospitality industry. And that’s our passion. That’s what we love to do. And to be able to give that experience to these people is just the best thing that we could possibly do.”
Patti Lyons, president of SCI, says the addition of local chefs and their menu items has been a big success with their MOW clients. “We live in one of the greatest communities in the world and it’s this type of taking care of your neighbor that makes it such a wonderful place.”…
