SAVANNAH, Ga. — Four young local athletes represented Robeson County well with their participation in the USA Track & Field Junior Olympics, held last month in Savannah, Georgia.
Devin Bridges posted the best result among the Robeson delegation, finishing eighth in the boys age-8-and-under long jump at 3.43 meters (11 feet, 4 inches). He entered the event as the 32 seed, far outperforming that mark in the meet, and was the highest-finishing 7-year-old in the event.
“For him to come in that far back in the pack, it was really impressive to watch him come out and get a new (personal record),” said Dominique Bridges, his father and coach. “For him to go out there and set a new P.R., and to really go out there and compete when he could’ve just went out there and just played around and not expect to win, it was really good to see him go out and compete and come home with a medal.”…
