Rep. Anne Allen Westbrook Critical Of Chatham County Police Collaboration With ICE Officials

Reports last week revealed federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers were found operating in Chatham County, with the help of local Chatham County police, to find and detain immigrants, with one of the reports specifying ICE agents were riding shotgun in the patrol car with officers.

Despite the Chatham County Police Department claiming they do not have a formal partnership with ICE and do not make it a practice to have ICE agents ride as passengers in patrol vehicles, it is exactly what occurred on multiple occasions, leaving many Savannahians concerned for potential impacts on the community.

Earlier in the year, the Trump administration set a mind-blowing quota to arrest 3,000 people a day in its anti immigration agenda, forcing federal officers and local police to scramble across the country, searching for folks who might be living here without proper documentation…
