Chatham Co. launches new Human Trafficking Investigation Unit

CHATHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WSAV) — Human trafficking isn’t just a national crisis – it’s happening right here at home. Chatham County ranks 4th in Georgia for child sex trafficking cases, with victims averaging just 12 to 14 years old.

Now, the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office is taking a bold step by launching a specialized unit to confront the crime. Over the past few years, Coastal Georgia has seen a sharp rise in reported trafficking cases. The Sheriff’s new human trafficking investigation unit is designed not only to arrest traffickers, but to interrupt exploitation at every level.

The Human Trafficking Investigation Unit officially launches today and is focused on tracking down traffickers while also providing long-term care for survivors.
