Holmes named first African American Chief Deputy in CCSO

CHATHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WSAV) – After more than a decade in retirement, McArthur Holmes is returning to the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office, this time making history as the department’s first African American chief deputy.

Holmes will serve alongside Sheriff Richard Coleman, helping carry out the sheriff’s vision and priorities. He said working his way through the ranks since joining the department in 1978 has prepared him for the role.

“Starting out as a fellow officer and then going up the ranks as training director, assistant administrator, and jail administrator has all prepared me for this position,” Holmes said. “And now I’m the chief deputy.”…
