Birria Spot brings traditional Mexican comfort food to Savannah

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) – As Hispanic Heritage Month comes to a close, one young entrepreneur is making his mark on Savannah’s food scene by bringing a traditional Mexican dish to new heights. Brandon Aguilar, 29, has transformed his childhood love of birria tacos into a thriving restaurant that blends Mexican tradition with Asian fusion flavors.

Birria Spot, located at the corner of West Gaston and Montgomery streets, has been serving the Savannah community for eight months. The restaurant specializes in birria, a slow-cooked beef dish traditionally filled with cheese, cilantro and onion, but Aguilar’s menu extends far beyond conventional tacos.

“Birria and birria tacos, it was like the ultimate taco,” Aguilar said. “It has so many dimensions. It’s not just beef. It has all of these acidic, tangy, punchy flavors. Every time I had it, I’m like it’s so good but I couldn’t have it all the time.”

From farm to restaurant
