Housing Authority responds to Yamacraw Village concerns

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – The Housing Authority of Savannah plans to move forward with a proposed plan to demolish Yamacraw Village, raising fears among residents who worry they will not be able to return to their community.

Officials said the 1940s public housing units have deteriorated beyond modern standards. Housing Authority Executive Director Evette Hester said 97 families still live in the community.

The agency submitted a demolition application to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, but the review is on hold because of the federal government shutdown…
