Food giveaway to support those impacted by SNAP freeze

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — As the federal government shutdown continues, the need is growing for families everywhere, including here in Savannah. Thousands of households are feeling the impact of frozen SNAP benefits, leaving many residents wondering how to put food on the table

Earlier this week Mayor Van Johnson said roughly 45,000 households in Chatham County rely on SNAP benefits. To help those struggling, the City of Savannah has partnered with Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia for a major food giveaway at Memorial Stadium.

“This Friday, we’re going to serve a thousand people or a thousand households to make sure that during these times when the SNAP benefits have been stopped, people will be able to feed their families and have access to good, healthy food,” shared Mary Jane Crouch, the Executive Director of Second Harvest…
