The Savannah-Chatham County Public School District (SCCPS) recently began requiring all 20 elementary schools in the district to conduct random searches of students for contraband.
For years, middle and high school students have been subjected to Random Administrative Inspections per the student code of conduct, but this year the policy changed, and now all grade levels are taking part in it.
“We’ve seen a lot more younger students, over the years, start to bring things into school,” Justin Pratt, SCCPS’ Emergency Management & School Safety Lieutenant. “Instead of it becoming an issue, we’re trying to find those objects on the front end and address it.”…
