SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – As north Atlantic right whales return to Georgia’s coast for calving season, the Tybee Island Marine Science Center is kicking off whale week 2025, a six day celebration to raise awareness for the endangered mammal.
Running Dec. 1–6, the free, community-focused activities mix science, art, family programming and conservation messaging. Events span across Chatham County, as TIMSC works to bring the story of the whales to the public.
Every winter, North Atlantic right whales migrate from the North Atlantic to the warmer waters off the southern coasts, the species’ primary calving grounds. Only around 350 of these whales are believed to remain, including fewer than 70 reproductively active females…
