SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — A months-long restoration project is finally coming to an end in downtown Savannah. The Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist is one of Savannah’s most recognizable landmarks, and this week, it’s looking a whole lot stronger. After more than a decade of structural concerns, the Basilica’s iconic twin spires have finally been restored.
This week, leaders are sharing just how big a project this really was. Since the 1890’s many have stood at the base of the cathedral and seen the spires tower over Savannah. However, it’s only when you step back that you really see just how massive this year’s restoration really was.
