Event honoring Darren Lewis spurs new safety bill effort

POOLER, Ga. (WSAV) – A new tradition began Saturday night in Pooler — one built on honoring a husband, father and friend, all while pushing for statewide change. WSAV was there for the emotional and first-ever Darren Lewis Foundation benefit.

Inside the Holiday Inn ballroom, there was warm music, holiday lights and a community brought together to honor Darren Lewis, the innocent bystander killed during a police chase earlier this year. His wife, Kathy, said Winter Blessings is her way of carrying on the love he shared.

“What inspires me is my husband. He is such a great man. I want his legacy to live on because he was just a blessing. So, to Winter Blessings is to bless someone else because he was such a blessing. And I want to bless the community,” said Kathy Lewis, also the founder of the Darren Lewis Foundation…
