Savannah, GA (WSAV) – Last year, the City of Savannah gathered for a community celebration officially renaming what was formerly known as Calhoun Square to one that honors the life of former Army nurse and Civil war heroine, Susie King-Taylor.
Born in Liberty County, Taylor was the first African American teacher to openly educate Black students in the state of Georgia, but her accomplishments don’t end there.
