Man posted on SPD social media ‘not considered a suspect’ in acid attack

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — The person that Savannah Police officers were seeking to identify on social media in connection to the Dec. 10 acid attack voluntarily spoke with investigators and is not a suspect, a spokesperson confirmed Tuesday.

After speaking with officers, the man was free to leave. Detectives were able to follow up on information that they received during their conversation with him, a spokesperson said.

A Savannah Police spokesperson said Sunday that the man was “NOT” a suspect in the case, but his role in the attack has been speculated on social media. His image was widely disseminated by officials and local media.

Ashley Wasielewski was walking near Forsyth Park when a man poured a corrosive liquid on her before fleeing the scene. She was transported to the Augusta Burn Center for treatment and a GoFundMe account has been set up to support her recovery…
