SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) – The new year marked a milestone for Savannah’s Ralph Mark Gilbert Civil Rights Museum as the community gathered downtown to celebrate 30 years of preserving and sharing the city’s civil rights history — and to honor the museum’s namesake on his birthday.
“The kickoff of 30 years of the Ralph Mark Gilbert Civil Rights Museum,” Vaughnette Goode-Walker, museum director, said during Thursday’s celebration. She called the anniversary both a look back at struggles overcome and a reminder of the work that continues.
