GDOT begins assessment for overhead signage on I-16 following crash

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — The signage on I-16 near the 37th Street connector suffered some damage following a crash on Monday morning that closed the interstate for most of the day.

The commute on the first Monday of 2026 was heavily impacted after a tractor-trailer failed to maintain a lane and crashed on I-16 Eastbound at Exit 166, causing a fire and delaying traffic.

The interstate was reopened Monday evening at approximately 6:35 p.m.
