ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — The U.S. Secret Service teamed up with state and local police last year to prevent more than $428.1 million in potential losses from card skimming in cities including Atlanta and Savannah, the agency said Wednesday.
Agents and their law enforcement partners conducted 22 operations nationwide to prevent fraud from ATM and EBT card skimming, according to the Secret Service.
They visited more than 9,000 businesses and removed 411 illegal skimming devices — which are used by criminals to steal information from ATM and EBT cards — from gas pumps, ATMs and other sales terminals, preventing “an estimated potential loss of more than $428.1 million.”…
