Savannah Man Convicted of Illegal Firearm Possession After Vehicle Theft and Police Chase

A Savannah man with prior felony convictions has been found guilty of illegally possessing a firearm following a one-day trial in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Georgia. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, on February 12, 2024, 39-year-old Benjamin Michael Greene stole a vehicle from a man on Augusta Avenue while the victim was attending to his tires.

When approached by police, Greene led officers on a vehicle and foot chase, ending with his arrest following a brief struggle to secure a firearm in his possession. Greene, barred from owning firearms due to prior convictions, was found with an additional firearm and controlled substances at the scene.
