Dad killed over Target parking spot dispute

A father-of-three, identified as Matthew Traywick, was shot and killed in the parking lot of a Target store on Abercorn Street in Savannah, Ga., following what officials described as an argument over a parking space. The suspect, 30‑year‑old Tyler Linn, was arrested at the scene and charged with murder and aggravated assault.

The Savannah Police Department confirmed officers responded to a shooting outside the Target store on January 4. Traywick, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds, was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Suspect is an Army veteran

Linn was in the Army from August 2015 until October 2023. During at least part of that time, he was stationed at Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, where he worked as an unmanned aircraft systems repairer from December 2021 until his discharge in October 2023. At the time he left the service, he held the rank of specialist.

Community response

A GoFundMe campaign was launched to support Traywick’s wife and children. The fundraiser has raised more than $85,000. Mayor Johnson emphasized the senseless nature of the violence, urging residents to resolve disputes peacefully.

Savannah Mayor Van Johnson addressed the incident in a Facebook post, stating the confrontation was linked to “an alleged argument over a parking dispute.” He added, “No disagreement over a parking space, or anything else should ever end in the loss of life.”…
