On an average day, 40,000 vehicles travel over Pooler Parkway, according to Kimley-Horn Roadway Engineer Drew Talley. In the coming years with continued growth, that number could balloon to around 54,000 vehicles. An 18-month long construction project on the stretch from Benton Boulevard to the I-95 southbound ramps could improve operations and safety in this corridor.
Tuesday night, Pooler City Council unanimously approved proceeding with acquisitions and condemnations of rights-of-way in this corridor to begin the project. This step is typically the first part of three phases of any road construction projects. The second is design and the third is the actual construction.
The project is being managed by Leon Davenport with Thunderbolt Consulting, who was at Tuesday’s meeting. Davenport and Talley were also at the Jan. 15 public meeting to discuss these changes.
