SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — Organizers across the country are calling for a national general strike on Friday, including planned actions in Savannah. The effort is tied to protests over recent federal immigration enforcement actions, which include two fatal shootings in Minnesota that have drawn national attention.
A rally is planned for Saturday afternoon at the Forsyth Park stage. Friday’s actions include a nationwide call for people to stay home from work, no school, and avoid shopping. Organizers tell me the actions are meant to draw attention to immigration enforcement practices.
Organizers said Friday’s actions are part of an effort involving activist groups in 46 states. More than 1,000 organizations are taking part while calling for an economic blackout.
