High-speed chase on I-16 ends in arrest, GSP says

CHATHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) – Georgia State Patrol confirmed a chase involving a DUI suspect on Interstate 16 ended safely Friday night, Feb. 13, after the vehicle came to a stop on the highway’s north shoulder.

The incident began when Chatham County K-9 units reported they attempted to stop a Ford Fusion on Bay Street in Chatham County for operating without headlights. Officers said the driver refused to stop and initiated a pursuit that quickly escalated, with speeds exceeding 120 mph. Just after 9:30 p.m., K-9 units with the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office said they requested assistance from GSP for a westbound chase on I-16 near mile marker 160.

GSP troopers said they became primary on I-16 westbound as the suspect passed mile marker 160. Troopers said they positioned to perform a P.I.T. maneuver near mile marker 155. There they confirmed the suspect vehicle entered the north shoulder and came to a stop…
