SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — On Sunday morning, dozens of letter carriers from the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) Branch 578 held a rally outside the main Savannah post office as part of a nationwide day of protest for better compensation.
“These rallies are going all over, even in the blizzard up in the northeast,” NALC Branch 578 Vice President Robert Moore said. “They’re out there, hitting the streets just like we are.”
Literature provided by the branch states the requests by the NALC include:
- Higher pay, including higher starting wages
- Shorter time to reach “top of pay scale”
- Full benefits
“What we want to do is attract first-class people to join the Postal Service, and we’re going to need fair wages and benefits for that so we can provide the greatest service for our great customers,” said Brendan Lamar, financial secretary for Branch 578…
