Savannah family honors late daughter on rare disease awareness day

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) – A Savannah mother is using Rare Disease Awareness Day to share her daughter’s story and the message that a diagnosis does not define the life a child lived.

Elizabeth Albury’s daughter, Harmony, was born with Trisomy-18, a rare genetic disorder commonly referred to as T-18. Though Harmony lived only a little longer than three months, she overcame many obstacles and defied the odds, according to her mother and doctor.

“But Harmony, she was a special child,” said Dr. Brad Buckler, neonatal medical director at Memorial Health and one of Harmony’s doctors. “I really feel very blessed to have been just a small part of her journey.”…
