Beaufort Co. votes to halt gunfire ordinance, officials likely to make changes

BEAUFORT COUNTY, S.C. (WSAV) – A proposed gunfire ordinance has so far moved quickly through Beaufort County Council chambers out of urgency for public safety. But in a Monday night regular meeting, council members voted 6-2 to delay moving forward to a final reading after hearing reservations from officials and the public.

In the meeting, it was revealed that a majority of residents agree their neighborhood should be protected from bullets. However, many raised concerns about how the proposed ordinance is written, if it’s being rushed and if it will be supported and enforced by law enforcement.
