Jury trial postponed for man accused of killing son’s girlfriend, good samaritan on Truman Parkway in 2023

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) – A trial was supposed to start this week for a man accused of killing his son’s girlfriend—and a good Samaritan on the Truman Parkway in 2023.

Jury selection was ongoing Wednesday, then the Defense requested a continuance til Summer, which was granted.

Prosecutors say 48-year-old Phillip Mock and 19-year-old Shaliyah Collins were found shot to death on the Truman Parkway in October of 2023.

Police later identified 49-year-old Derek Johnson as the suspect. Johnson, the stepfather of Collins’ boyfriend, was eventually tracked down in South Florida and arrested… Nearly two days after the shooting and more than 300 miles away in St. Petersburg…
