Judge orders jurors’ names be released in Teeple case

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — A judge ordered a set of jurors’ names be released Monday, three months after a Chatham County man was found guilty in the 2019 death of an elderly man.

Charles Teeple IV was charged after he punched 66-year-old Bruce Helmly on New Year’s Eve in 2019, which led to Helmly’s death days later. The incident occurred at Basil’s Bar in Wilmington Island.

He was ultimately found guilty by a Chatham County jury of battery, involuntary manslaughters and exploitations and intimidation of an elderly person.

The motion for the release of juror names and contact information was filed by state. According to court documents, it followed a brief from Teeple’s representation requesting a continuance and hearing on a “limited post-trial matter.”…
