Savannah’s ‘Great Tire Patch’ on Hutchinson Island slated for removal

There is a type of tower hidden on Savannah’s Hutchinson Island, and not one of steel or architectural grandeur.

It’s one of round rubber. A mound of tires taller than a typical man. It’s what those curious to find obscure urban attractions have dubbed the “Great Savannah Tire Patch.”

The site has its own Google Maps page, and the pin will take wanderers right to its home along Grand Prize of America Avenue. But soon the large tire pile will be gone after Savannah City Council approved a $73,500 contract to remove the tires…
