Pooler residents walk against development by park, canal

POOLER, Ga. (WSAV) — Local nature advocates led Pooler residents on a walk Saturday, showing where proposed development could affect the trail by the Savannah-OgeeChee Canal.

At a Pooler City Council meeting on Monday, council members voted to change conditions in the zoning at 200 Jesup Road. Those changes deny access through Dublin Road and instead add access on the southside, through the historic Savannah-OgeeChee Canal.

From the trail, you can see existing buildings of the site of the former Oglethorpe Speedway, but now a developer is proposing three new warehouses to go on the lot.

With the changes in the zoning, the developer’s only option is to build a road through the Savannah-OgeeChee canal.
